Raising money for worthwhile causes is an important part of Kiwanis. Our club distributes all funds raised back into the community in several different ways.
1) Service Leadership Programs – We support our SLPs by helping fund their initiatives and their attendance at leadership development conventions and events.
2) Materials for Service Projects – Club members enjoy hands-on service projects and we use funds to cover costs of materials used in those projects.
3) Local and Worldwide Kiwanis Initiatives – We provide donations to the Kiwanis International Foundation and Capital District Foundation to support causes such as eliminating maternal/neonatal tetanus.
4) Charitable Donations – We have been able to provide donations to various organizations that operate locally, such as the Ronald McDonald House of Northern Virginia and Our Daily Bread’s holiday sponsor-a-family program.

Food for Neighbors (https://www.foodforneighbors.org/), one of our Polar Dip beneficiaries, is having a Red Bag Day event on March 9th. They are in need of volunteers at Irving Middle School to help process the donations that come in. If you are a Kiwanian, please let Maureen F know by Wednesday March 6th if you plan to attend.
Volunteers help with all planting and harvesting at the JK Community Farm. In 2023 we will grow and donate over 230,000lbs of healthy food to food pantries throughout Northern Virginia and DC. Our volunteers help with transplant seedlings from our greenhouse to the fields, raised beds, and high tunnels, harvesting farm fresh produce, and occasional weeding!
Volunteers of all ages and experience levels are welcome, we will train you onsite!
