Many thanks to Steven Myers, the Service Learning Resource Teacher for Fairfax County Public Schools, for speaking about FCPS’ service learning programming at last week’s club meeting!
Service learning involves students in authentic and meaningful service to their communities therefore developing their career and personal civic interests. This educational approach includes partnering with an agency (usually a non-profit or social service group) while learning theories in the classroom. The long term goal outside of potential career development is lifelong community engagement.
If you missed the meeting and would like to learn more, you can view Steven’s presentation here.
We are looking for more Kiwanians and Key Clubbers to come volunteer at the Girls on the Run NOVA 5K Race! It is happening at Jiffy Lube Live on May 16th, 6:15am arrival depending on which volunteer position you choose (later if for example, running in the race with kids that starts at 8am). We would love to see you for an interclub and service project. Kiwanis of Woodbridge signed up as general volunteers and will be working at the Starting line and Finish line giving out medals. Wear your Kiwanis shirts, or GOTR Pink and come on out! Let me know to look for you if you're coming and sign up with GOTR here!
Join us for our Monthly Meeting! We meet in person and virtually on the first Wednesday of the month. Prospective members, fellow Kiwanians, and members of the K-Family are always welcome
